Title Special Exhibit Celebrating the “Lucky Pig”
Period 2006-12-20 ~ 2007-02-26
Venue ExhibitionⅡ

The “Lucky Pig” Exhibit opens with the dawning of 2007, the Year of the Boar (or Pig), offering you a look at the symbolism and significance of an animal believed to bring good health and good fortune. The sign for the Boar (亥 hae) comes last in the duodenary cycle of the Asian Zodiac, represents the Northwest by North direction and falls between 9:00 and 11:00PM during the 24-hour day. Ancient Koreans hunted wild boar, domesticated pigs, and offered pork in ceremonies to ancestors as a supplication for blessings. Sows have large litters, so the pig is also symbol of progeny. A Sino-Korean character for “pig” is pronounced dōn (豚), a homonym for “money,” and swine are thus associated with wealth and good.
