The wisdom of Korean ancestors in overcoming the heat of summer is featured in a special exhibition showing ‘taste’ as a way of enjoying summer, ‘palate’ as a reflection of life style and ‘healing’ as a means to harmonize with nature.
The exhibition space takes one back to ancient times experiencing ways in which ancestors enjoyed ‘a summer day’s repose’. Together with this the aesthetics hidden in daily use can be felt through the objects from the collection of the National Folk Museum of Korea juxtaposed with contemporary craft that reinterpret tradition.
Contrary to going against nature Korean ancestors practiced becoming one with it. They learnt to endure summer. Through a glimpse into their life style, the exhibition enables one to sense their elegance by merging tradition with modern aesthetics.
