In celebration of the cosponsorship of 2002 World Cup, the National Folk Museum of Korea and the National Museum of Ethnology, Japan jointly provide an opportunity to understand the culture of both countries under the theme of everyday life. In part I, 「Home in Kyoto」, we try to take a look at the Japanese culture of food, clothing and shelter and present a basic framework to understand Japanese culture through the life of an old woman who spent her whole life in Kyoto. Part II, 「from Cradle to Grave」, introduces the rites of passage of ordinary Japanese from birth to death and compares them with ours. Part III, 「Understanding Contemporary Japanese Culture」, aims at comprehending the changing aspects of contemporary Japanese everyday life by means of young men's life and fashion, sports and entertainment, and music and animation.
