Venue | ExhibitionⅠ |
Koreans in the past yearned for longevity and good fortunes. Among all the fortunes, longevity was considered to be the most important, since it was decided by the heavens. So, even daily items were decorated with the Subok characters and the ten symbols of longevity to express this wish. From the first to sixtieth birthday or from wedding to sixtieth wedding anniversary, celebrations of the sixtieth year congratulated the elderly and wished them longevity. This exhibition explores changes in the meaning of longevity for our contemporaries and offers us a chance to appreciate traditional items decorated with symbols of longevity by those in the past who wanted to wish their loved ones good luck and a long life. |
