About the Exhibition
The National Folk Museum of Korea and the Advanced Center for Korean Studies presents the special exhibition entitled "Jingbirok - The Book of Corrections." This special exhibition is coordinated with the exhibition "There is nothing worth living for except for fulfilling loyalty and filial piety," which is being held at Exhibition Hall 3 of the National Folk Museum of Korea, featuring the story of the Pungsan Ryu Family. Jingbirok - The Book of Corrections was written by Ryu Seongryong (류성룡, 柳成龍, 1542~1697) to arouse the next generations' attention, looking back on the Japanese Invasion in 1592. In the book, he emphasizes loyalty and filial piety, values which he lived up to throughout his life. This exhibition reaffirms the meaning of "loyalty (충, 忠)," love for the country.

Section 1. Overcoming the Japanese Invasion in 1592 as Yeongeuijeong
Ryu Seongryong served as Yeongeuijeong (영의정, 領議政, Prime Minister of the Joseon Dynasty) and Dojechalsa (도제찰사, 都體察使, Commander-in-Chief) for about seven years during the Japanese invasion. He appointed (이순신, 李舜臣) and other important leaders and built fortresses across the nation in preparation for the approaching invasion by Japan. When Japan invaded the country in April 1592, he stabilized public sentiment while serving King Seonjo (선조, 宣祖). He also united with Ming and recaptured Pyeongyangseong (평양성). Furthermore, he focused on military training and the manufacturing of diverse weapons in preparation for an invasion of foreign intruders from the north. He suffered from serious illness due to the war and extended fatigue, but as Yeongeuijeong, he dedicated himself to overcoming the war until its end.

Section 2. Writing Jingbirok - The Book of Corrections to arouse the next generations' attention
Ryu Seongryong retired to Hahoe (하회, 河回), Andong, which was his hometown, having been dismissed from all his duties on charges of jeopardizing the country by insisting on entering into friendly relations with Japan when Lee Sunshin (이순신, 李舜臣) died in battle and the Japanese invasion came to an end. He trained disciples at Ogyeonjeongsa (옥연정사, 玉淵精舍) and wrote Jingbirok - The Book of Corrections (징비록, 懲毖錄) to record his own experiences and historical facts during the Japanese invasion for the future of Joseon and to display his loyalty (충, 忠) to arouse the next generations' attention.
