Introduction "Daehan" (大寒), which literally means "great cold," refers to the 24th and last of the 24 seasonal sub-divisions, or solar terms, of the lunar calendar.

Period the approximately one-week long period from the fifth day after the solar term Daehan to the third day before the solar term Ipchun

Introduction "Singugan" (新舊間), which literally means "between the old and the new," is a unique folk custom of Jeju Island. The custom is practiced from the fifth day after "Daehan" (大寒) until three days before "Ipchun" (立春).
