Introduction "Sanggang" (霜降), which means "fall of the frost," falls in the ninth month of the lunar calendar. It is one of the twenty-four seasonal sub-divisions, or solar terms, on the lunar calendar.

National Foundation Day

Introduction "Gaecheonjeol," or National Foundation Day, is a national holiday held on October 3 to commemorate the foundation of Gojoseon (古朝鮮), the first Korean kingdom, by Dangun (檀君).

Introduction "Junggu" (重九), which literally means "double nine," falls on the ninth day of the ninth month of the lunar calendar and is also called "Jungyangjeol."

Introduction Hangeul Day is a national holiday held on October 9 to commemorate the invention and the proclamation of "Hunminjeongeum" (訓民正音), or Hangeul, the Korean alphabet, and to celebrate its excellence.
